The University of California Hastings College of the Law 2018 Commencement Ceremony will take place Saturday, May 12, 2018 in the Bill Graham Civic Auditorium. We are pleased to announce that Congressman Adam Schiff will present the keynote speech.

“It will be an honor to introduce Congressman Schiff to the Class of 2018,” says UC Hastings Chancellor & Dean David L. Faigman. “UC Hastings, the first law school in the Western United States, was founded in 1878 as the ‘law department’ of the University of California. Our founding motto, fiat justitia, Let Justice Be Done, continues to guide us, as we explain in this short video we recently made to highlight our commitment to justice and the rule of law. Congressman Schiff’s service to this State and our Nation well represents our school’s dedication to these principles.”

"Over the past year and a half, our democratic institutions and our system of checks and balances have been tested in ways we haven’t seen in a generation,” says Congressman Adam Schiff. “We are confronted with vivid reminders that the principles that have shaped our nation are not self-effectuating, but require diligence and determination. The 2018 graduates of UC Hastings College of the Law are the next generation of attorneys, judges, and more who will be charged with putting their training into action, with a commitment to justice and the rule of law. I am excited to join them to celebrate their commencement.”
